Wisconsin and National No Call lists.

If you registered your phone number in the past two years, please note that your registration might have expired on these lists. Registrations are good for approximately two years. Check the web sites listed in this article for more details.

Signing up for the Wisconsin’s No Call List identifies you as someone who does not wish to receive telemarketing calls. It’s free and available for residential telephone customers in Wisconsin. Your number will remain on the List for two years. Adding your residential phone number to the List will help reduce (but not eliminate) telemarketing calls to your home.

Consumers can sign up 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, either by visiting the Wisconsin No Call List website and clicking https://nocall.wisconsin.gov/web/registration.asp or by calling 1-866-9NO-CALL (1-866-966-2255) toll-free in Wisconsin. The date you sign up determines the date when telemarketing calls should decrease: The updated No Call List is given to registered telemarketers quarterly. Therefore, it may take 30 to 120 days for your number to get to telemarketers. At the website address listed above you will find additional information including Frequently Asked Questions and articles on tips for how to handle telemarketing calls.

Signing up for the National Do-Not-Call Registry will add your phone number to the registry that is nationwide in scope, applies to all telemarketers (with the exception of certain nonprofit organizations), and covers both interstate (from one state to another) and intrastate (within state) telemarketing calls. Commercial telemarketers are not allowed to call you if your number is on the registry subject to certain exceptions. Subscribers may register their residential telephone numbers, including wireless numbers, on the National Do-Not-Call Registry by telephone or by Internet and at no cost. To add your telephone number to the National Do-Not-Call Registry via the Internet, go to www.donotcall.gov. To register by phone, call 1-888-382-1222; for TTY call 1-866-290-4236. You must call from the phone number you wish to register. For more information on the National Do-Not-Call Registry see our web page at http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/donotcall/ Also, it is important to note that some organizations and institutions are exempt from the rules of the Do Not Call lists. We’ve summarized these points from the FCC web site here:

• Telemarketers may continue to call individuals who have not placed their numbers on a do-not-call list and those with whom they have an established business relationship.

• Tax-exempt nonprofit organizations will not be subject to the do-not-call requirements since they are exempted under the TCPA.

• Calls regarding political and religious speech will not be subject to the do not call requirements since they are not considered “telephone solicitations” under the TCPA.
